Not an advert for my advert, but I'm somewhat worried I haven't had a single enquiry about our car for sale.
We held off through Christmas, then did the C&C/Gumtree etc. I posted the 'paid' advert up on AT a couple of weeks ago.
From experience answering this on other people's threads, the usual answer is, price.
I checked the other cars for sale and went in the middle. Since then, a few more are now listed and I've dropped the price but still nothing.
I wouldn't mind if it was my own car but it's the wife's and I'd prefer she has the money back out of it sooner rather than later as it was me that advised her to buy/sell privately as it was easy and quickrolleyes
Other issue is as we're full here with 2 cars parked off road and a further 2 on street, I've moved the Mazda to in-law's not too far away. He's not complained about it, but am conscious we're taking up a space on his driveway.

Any advice on the ad? Thought pics were ok, but with low sun this time of year was difficult to get a decent snap on a mobile.

p.s Does anybody know how to add a subtitle on the AT site. Been through the edit process a few times and unable to see it.

Nothing wrong with the advert I think, if I was looking for one I'd come and have a look. Price is ok as you say, perhaps it's the time of the year with Xmas credit card bills coming through etc. You might do better in another month or so I'm afraid.

Dont forget its not the prime time of the year to be selling drop-tops, give it a few months when it start warming up and people will start looking.

Yes, i would agree with the above.

All reads well and car looks well. The wording gives a clear indication that its your own pride and joy too, rather than something picked up for resale the night before by a "private" trader.

I think you might have to sit tight for a month or two yet.

Aye, thanks for advice. I keep forgetting PH'ers are not normal people. 16K on a Z4 2 weeks before Christmas seemed a great idea to me!
Thought selling the MX5 might be a little tricky Christmas week but had expected at least a few enquiries by now.

Ad has 3 or 4 weeks left so will see how we do after Jan payday. Hopefully a few bites.

I would try Gumtree and PH as well and maybe ebay classifieds - but January is a recovery month after the christmas spend for most people so that plus its a convertible means its likely you wont get much interest at the min.

You're trying to sell a convertible between Christmas and the first monthly pay packet of the year.

Have you got a price on it from we buy any car? I ignored them initially as I assumed they'd be at P/X price. However, they offered 1k more than P/X for my car (650 coupe) - a car they shouldn't, in theory, want.

Decided the overall deal wasn't for me so I've no idea how the price works out when you bring it for them to look at in person, but worth at least getting a number from them if you're keen to shift it.

On your search there is a 2 year newer car for £400 less directly under your advert.
The mileage is higher, but it also has FSH and 11 months MOT.

I was trying to sell my Caterham before xmas and got very little interest beyond people telling me it was over-priced (it was the cheapest K-series for sale in the UK and the view on here was that it was under-priced!). As above, it's not a good time of year to sell a drop-top.

If you can hold onto it til Spring you'll have more interest I think.

Had a quick look on CAP Valuation - Recommended retail price is £6,250, auction average £4,900 so perhaps a touch high.
I'd be dropping it to £5,750 - 6k if you want it to move quicker as you may get dealers sniffing around for stock.

I could only find 2 going through auction in September at 68% of Retail value, 100% auction average. Gut feel would be mid 5s to shift it.

As has been said above, wrong time to sell, great time to buy!

at first look i thought a little expensive, but i didn't see it was a CC.
Many looking for a CC might prefer 2.0l?
Ad not explicit, not sure roadster is best description. i'd headline "coupe/convertible" to be clear.
nice car, but market will be quiet until temperatures warm...

It's only the 1.8 model in a colour that in some lights is drab. Problem is there is a huge choice out there & no doubt there are 2.0 models in better colours & with some extras at a comparable price.
Earlier versions are less dumpy & prettier & the MK 1's becoming classics for which you can pay £5000 if in perfect restored or original condition.
It's a buyers market.

I don't know if it's because it already listed but I seem unable to be able to change the title or add a subtitle.

Will just have to wait it out. I think it's a reasonable asking price considering the mileage of 27K. There are 5 similar cars at under 40K miles and all much closer to 7K.

It's a poor spec.

At that price I'd expect 2.0, maybe leather/BOSE.

^^ That yes

It's a 1.8, and from an enthusiast's perspective, I'd never pay that for a 1.8.

What this guy said. If you want to shift it in the space of a couple of weeks at a time when very few are selling, you need to be towards the bottom of the market rather than in the middle.

Not least because I paid £8000 for an 11k miles 2.0 with leather, heated seats and FDSH a few years ago.

I'd be delighted to get £6500 for it now with 23k on.
