Hi ,
Does anyone know for sure if a mk2 tonneau cover will fit a mk1 .My new car is a 1995 mk1 with hard top in dark metallic blue and to finish it off i have found a dark blue mk2 cover
Any advice appreciated

I have never tried it but I have been led to believe they are not interchangeable, something to do with the poppers being in different places.

The poppers are all in the same place but the pair on the seatbelt towers are different. On the Mk1 they are the lovely nipple type popper whereas on Mk2+ they use bigger traditional poppers. I think they can be swapped though if you can find some Mk1 poppers.

I ran a 1990 MK1 & was able to buy a second-hand but never used FULL tonneau complete with the windscreen poppers. Removing the blanks & screwing in the poppers was a delicate business as had nightmares that I would lose a popper down one of the air vents! Oddly the cover would not reach right over the drivers door so had to have an additional section sewn in. Driving with the cover just open for driver only was a joy reminding me of many happy hours driving '60's classic sports cars with such covers. How I wished the next car a Honda S2000 had a full tonneau. At the time I never ever met another MX-5 owner with a full tonneau & it created as much interest as the car itself at early owners club meets & concours comps.
Said cover is now gathering dust in attic along with myriad MX-5 books & models.
