I'm not a huge fan of modifying cars and prefer to keep most bits factory fresh, however on my Mk2 I have had a few bits done to spruce it up a bit and make it look unique without hugely changing the appearance or feel.

So far I've added a mohair roof, a subtle but more beefy/better looking exhaust, stick on number plate and chrome style bars.

Any ideas on what else could be done to improve the car without spending vast amounts and not slamming it etc?

Here's my car currently to show what I mean

Clear/smoked reflectors and side repeaters?

Change the colour of the wheels?

Side stripes?

A grille for the front bumper. I would recommend fitting one anyway otherwise there is nothing to protect the bottom of the radiator from stones.

I'd get some decent coilies. It really could do with being a bit lower. I'm not talking about "slamming", I can't stand that rubbish, just a subtle lowering to loose the arch gaps. The handling will benefit a lot too.

Sure is, rubbish name for a special edition but love the styling.

Yes. I did this on mine, looks much better.

Although I have a mk1, I added the factory front/rear black valence, basically a 2" black lip under the bumpers which I think improves it without it looking like a body kit. Maybe there is such a thing for the Mk2.

Depends on what you call cheap but I got these guys to refurb me a set of calipers and coat them in BRG to match the car could get black to match yours.

Second the front grill, useful and very subtle if black. At some point I'll get around to drawing up a custom one to be laser cut. Not decided what the image will be yet but something more interesting then honeycomb!
Also see what's fitted to the special additions like V-Specs etc to see if there's anything you fancy stealing i.e. chrome door handles, Nardi wooden steering wheel and gear knob....

Bit pricey for me I think, anything over a hundred or so quids and I'd be looking to do paintwork or Alloy retouching. The grill I'm working on, have access to a laser cutter myself so trying to get one made up especially. Seems quite difficult to get under the front bumper hole and measure it up without it being a big job though, although i have only had a quick look.

Buy a cheap one and use it as a pattern, then sell it on when you've done the custom one? I've seen used ones go for the same price as new ones on Fleabay :/
What are you planning to put on it? I'm thinking something involving the Eunos logo.

Something I have done for the winter tyre steelies is have some new center cap stickers made with the Eunos logo on them. Can't remember what I paid but wasn't much.

A coach line wouldn't be amiss. Subtle yet I think adds a bit.

The MK2 factory front lip looks nice, Also a subtle 30mm drop on the suspension really improves the look and you can still navigate speed humps etc without issues. Just avoid cheapo setups.
Painting the headlight inners black also looks good, it's on my to do list.

The MK2.5 rear lights look a lot more modern than the standard MK2 items and are a 5 min swap, can pick them up on eBay cheaply now.

Got any examples of this? Can't visualise it! Google images only crops up ridiculous flame decals or track cars.

I've got an ivory gear knob recycled from a broken bootfair corkscrew with a silver St Christopher badge recessed into the top. Brings me luck!

Nice - manages to simultaneously tick the "endangered species" and "2000 year old superstition" boxes in one go! Replacing the foam in the seats with the feathers from the very last Dodo would be a nice touch biggrin

I'd work on what's under the bonnet to make it a "Sleeper".

You can do a bit of both

Exterior :
Maxton designs front lip
Tein S-Tech lowering springs (35mm drop)
luggage rack

That's all

But the interior and engine bay have seen the most work, with a 225bhp supercharger mod and the dash looks like this:

(Although I've since replaced that crap Nardi copy with an original Nardi Classic)

I did Eibach springs (progressive rate - 30mm), new lightweight alloys, MX5 parts exhaust (they hold no reserve ebay specials occasionally), small skirts, small mudguards, clear indicators/reflectors, clay bar and quality wax.

Black / Charcoal headlight interior plastics is an awesome subtle mod that makes it look considerably meaner...

Along with the aforementioned lowering and grill installation
