Sooooooo, I've just made either the best decision of my life (or possibly the worst?) and bought my first proper sports car! 2004 MX5 Euphonic in dark grey smile

PLEASE TELL ME I'VE MADE A GOOD CHOICE!!!! I'm nervous as f*ck at the moment, can't wait to pick it up!

You'll love it. Get the top down at every opportunity and keep to the back roads. If you've bought carefully it'll serve you well.

Great choice. I curse mine every time I realise how much I have to do on it, but then just grin like a loon when I actually drive it!

I'm just a naturally nervous person... Especially when it involves cars that I can't really afford biggrin

Me too, I buy cars as infrequently as I can and I still go through nervous hell until I've had a car a few weeks and know it isn't going to explode under me.

I'd say an 5 is pretty cheap to run for the fun you'll get.

My son bought a 1997 mk1 on Sunday with a view of getting some familer problems sorted out before summer use .
I drove it home from private purchase as I was insured and he wasn't . It was great I enjoyed the simplicity of it and no power steering took me back to my mgb many years ago.
I drive a zed4 with more toys than Hamleys but this was as much fun ...,. And considerably cheaper.
You've made a great decision
Enjoy.

Great choice.
Over the years I've owned/driven many cars.
The Eunos (albeit Mk1 s/c, sorted chassis and decent tyres) is "the best car I've driven" - which is what I said about my, then new, Golf GTi.
It does more miles than the tin-top, most of that's roof down, and it participates in Autosolos as well as touring through France and into Italy at least once a year.

I trust that there was still a policy current on the car?
If you were driving it on your own policy (i.e. any other vehicle third party) but without it having a current policy your insurance is invalid.
Ask me how I know!

Cheers, Pewe.

Loving it so far, although I couldn't have chosen a better time to buy one... We've got rain for the next week and a half solid! frown

Looks nice.
You can still drive roof down even in the heaviest rain - just need to go faster driving
Monsoon rain is a problem though as it tends to blow back into the car from behind as we found out on Wed near Swindon.
Cheers, Pewe.

If you are expecting a lot of rain & the car has to stand outside I suggest finding & checking the hood drains are clear. I think it's a bit of a daft design to have water running off the hood & round to each side into the drains.
Don't ask me how I know!

I'm doing them on the next day I can do it without getting soaked! They need doing though, I know that!
You're right though, stupid design...

Will do! Red oxide paint and dinitrol I think!

If you don't already know it and if it's the same design as Mk1's you need a trombone cleaner (seriously) which you insert from the top and pull through from underneath.
That way the one-way flaps at the bottom of the tube continue to allow draining - push up from underneath and they'll block the tube....
HTH.
Cheers, Pewe.
