Just bought a mk 1 mx5 and it has the familiar problem of rust on the wheel arch edges.
Anyone got a very favourite rust treatment they've found , and lasts ?

If you've already got visible signs of rust on the exterior of the arch then your best bet is to cut it out and have some new metal put in. Anything else will only delay the inevitable and potentially make it worse. If you want a good product to protect from rust in the future I'd recommend Dinitrol.

Dinitrol or Bilt Hamber.

But as said, with the arch it's probably new metal time. You might delay it and improve it slightly - but eventually it'll need replacement.

Apart from the advice to be as ruthless as possible on cutting out rusty bits, I still like Waxoil, which I've used successfully on various cars. I have a compressor and a paraffin gun and get the wax good and runny by heating it on a camping stove. I also thin it with some white spirit and it goes everywhere - you can see it blowing out of holes and crevices and the car stinks for a week or two after!

there is a guide on here and one on ntz and mx5oc on how to treat the car. Get the repairs done first then either follow the guide or pay someone to do it like this lot

or this (probably too far away just as an example )
