I've had the old girl for a few years now. its been garaged and on a SORN since about mid 2009 since I moved to London but its washed every week and taken for a very short drive around my parents drive to make sure the brakes dont bind up etc. the battery is knackered and it needs a jump start which I guess isn't good for it but there it is.

Whilst I would dearly love her in London it simply isn't going to happen both because of the cost of the insurance and because I think too much of the car to expose her to the mean streets of east London (my 400 quid 307 will do for that job)

Ive been thinking lately about what her future is and whether it would be fairer on her if I sold her on to someone who would use her more often and enjoy her.

shes only got 58k odd on her and her body work is in excellent condition. a few marks here and there but it looks more like a 7 or an 8 year old car than a 20 year old car.

I cant get my head round the values though.

one bloke is asking nearly 4k odd for one with a similar mileage to mine, which I can only assume is pretty mad: http://www.southwestroadsters.co.uk/mk1-uk-monaco/... however another bloke sold his for about http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C589355 1800 quid odd but with 100k on the clock

to be honest given mine hasn't got any service history since 2009 but is in A1 condition with very low miles, so i'm really not sure what mine would be worth.

I'd like to keep her, I really would, and if shes only worth a grand at present (which I suspect she is) then I probably will keep her as I think as a future classic with 58k on the clock she might be worth a few bob in the future...

what do we think?

Keep and cherish! You'll regret it in 5-10 year's time if you sell it now.

Re battery, if you are currently bump starting it you could buy a battery pack starter like this:
http://carpartscenterxl.nl/index.php/12000mah-mult...

For 60 Euros and it works a treat. Also, fit a battery isolator switch.

I have a 1991 Eunos V Spec stored in the UK since I went overseas. I can't drive it but my family run it in the summer. Looking forward to driving it again when I eventually move back. Can't bring myself to sell it as I love the thing! I keep telling myself that one day I'll treat it to a supercharger...

I also have similar dilemma. Have a mk1 eunos v special that I've been toying with selling just out of pure life simplicity of having less cars (currently have 4)

The big question is....
Is it rusty? If it's not and it's all original and will pass an mot then 1800£ upwards but the guys that sell for 4k are dealers I've not seen anyone get anything like that in a private sale.

However..., keep it!

I have. The price of spotless, rustless, original condition '5s is going up and it's not unusual for a particularly good car to go for upwards of £4k. There seems to be a void between those and the more average condition cars at £1.8k and lower though.

Only from a dealership like goodwoodsportscars.

Stash it some place.

Consider that MK1s are the classic MX5. They will go up in value like "proper" minis and MK1/2 Escorts.

People think there are so many of them that they will remain worthless. I remember a time a friend purchased an MOT failure mini with a single note. But have you seen the price of a tatty mini nowadays!

Put it somewhere where it will remain in reasonable condition and wait 10 years.

Mini is even more iconic.
I have no such luxury of just leaving it in a garage. My garage only has space for one car.
I just plan to run it and maintain it every year.

Nope, I've seen them go privately too. Some that are considered "show cars" can go for really stupid money!

What sort of milage? Mine is a 80,000mile, 1994 V-Special eunos which, I understand, isn't that special!

Mostly very low mileage but that's because they tend to be the pampered garage queens. It is more down to condition than mileage.
