So 17 failures on the MOT, and I cannot decide whether it is worth saving from the breakers yard or not. The car is hardly in great conditio. Repair costs plus a bit more would probe;y mean I could buy another better example. What do you all reckon?

If you are paying a garage to do the majority of the work then probably not worth saving. A lot of those are relatively minor issues to sort though. The rust is a big one and depends how bad it is. Some MOT testers can be quite melodramatic in their definitions of rust whereas others can be quite the opposite.

Where in the country are you based, I can recommend a few places to try.

Thanks

It's the rust that kills it imo.

I think it depends on where the rust is for 009, 010 & 014 (what are "body mountings" on an MX-5?). If it's the chassis rails in the engine bay then along with the rust in the sills I'd say that probably kills it.
The rest is relatively minor and could be fixed fairly cheaply.

I'm in Edinburgh. Any good welders or more likely a breakers yard who'd buy it would be good. Just had new EBC brakes all round which a worth a bit.

For me too the rust means its probably game over.

It sounds like a lot of rust but not fail sheets can be misleading. If it's riddled with holes then it's probably more economic to scrap it/ sell it to someone for parts and get yourself something with 12m ticket
Does it have any sentimental value?

No sentimental value to me as its my girlfriends car but she has a certain attachment to it. Although it's lost it's shine for her as she has sunk a lot of cash into it all ready.

Best to get it down a welder and see what the actual damage might be.

Is it a bogoo standard mx5 or any sort of limited edition model. If its the first then looks like a scrapper to me.

Unless it's one of very few sought-after specials, that makes pretty much no difference. Special editions of MX5 are as common as standard cars! (they made 2 specials in both UK and JDM every year).

Im on about future values limited edition models yes there are plenty will fetch a bit more than standard models. All depends if you think its worth it or not hard to say without looking at the car and the condition.
