The reason i bought this car - Lakes and Scotland Tour!
Discussion
Hi all,
Just back (last week), from our tour of The Lake District and Scotland.
12 nights
5 hotels
1536 miles
Amazing scenery
And....approx 38mpg!!!
Home is Gorleston (near Gt. Yarmouth), and we headed first to our hotel just outside Keswick. 3 nights there and it was off up to Oban for another 3 nights. After that we drove up to Loch Ness where we stayed for 2 nights. Then it was a drive through the Cairngorms to Aberdeen for the weekend. Lastly we drove down to Edinburgh for 2 nights and then the final drive home.
The weather was lovely, we had one day of rain in Aberdeen ( no surprise), and half a day of it in Edinburgh. The rest was sunny and anywhere from 14-20 deg C.
As mentioned the scenery is breath taking, roof was off as much as possible. Roads were in good condition with not much traffic...a joy to drive!! I'll put a few pics below, didn't take a huge amount as only had our phones and due to it being so sunny it was often difficult to get a decent photo!
Hope you enjoy!

Cheers, the weather was great...we were very lucky!
The route depends on your start point so for us it worked well to go clockwise and head straight down the East coast to home.
I think missing out Aberdeen and doing it in 8 days would suffice. The only reason we did Aberdeen is because I'm there a lot with work and my Wife had never been, so thought I would show her the lovely sights of Union Street on a Saturday night!
There are a lot of places to see so you'll never really fit it all in one trip, but I think this would work;
2 nights - Lake District
2 nights - Oban
2 nights - Loch Ness
2 nights - Edinburgh
If you want any info on the hotels we used (got some very good deals, some including food / wine etc), or places to see then send me a pm and i'll tey and help.
