After 13 years of ownership my brilliant black ( with titanium hardtop)Mk 2 face lift MX5 is due for some TLC , first is a new soft top , followed by rubbing down and painting of sills , finally the wheels which are suffering the usual degradation. I know the cost of the works will never be recovered should I ever sell the car ,but , at present I don’t foresee it going . its my toy

This is my question , and it is regarding the colour of the wheels , I can just have them refurbished to the original silver , or … I am looking at perhaps either a gunmetal grey or even black finish

Are there any Mk2.5 5s out there with OEM wheels that are finished in black or grey . perhaps a pic if possible
Ta Rod

I think gun metal looks great on wheels, although I'm not sure if they would work on a black car.
Here's mine, I did them myself with BMW graphite rattle cans from Halfrauds.

Thanks for that , and you have given me an idea , down to halfords for a can of paint , and just spray one wheel to the colour you have used , stand back and decide, even post a pic for opinion then have professionals do the work as my wheels are pretty rough at present

Having tried a grey finish wheel, I find myself in a quandary , from a distance the car looks ok with a slightly more aggressive look , but close up due to the thin spokes on the wheels, the callipers and disc stand out , the calliper and hub could be painted black or grey to tone them down but on balance I think I will stick with the OEM look
I am glad I tried this out as I would never been satisfied I had made the right choice for me
Thanks for help and input

At least with the plasicote base the grey will peel off easily
