Don't know how many of you guys watch Mototrend TV. But there is a very good review of the new MX-5.
https://youtu.be/BLtw2z_mZ6w

And an earlier road test done in Scotland with the smaller engine 1.5 variant:
https://youtu.be/gDLKwTdurxg

The first vid pits the MX-5 against the BRZ. The Mazda clocks some impressive performance stats in the test. Way better than those posted on he Mazda UK website. Anyone know if the UK spec models have different gearing or final drive? Power outputs appear to be the same. Just a huge difference in claimed performance.

Great video actually, cheers for posting. One thing that strikes me is that the engine note sounds rather like an S2K.

I can't watch it at work and I forgot to watch it last night. I'll set myself a reminder.

Speaking of motortrend, this is also a very good review which popped up next.

Nice review. I think new MX5 is a real winner. Good looking, great handling and fast. I also like motortrend a lot, at least this dude and Probs too. They focus on driving a lot, which is a good thing.

Ah... The guy that did this review left MotorTrend. Apparently it's his last video for them.

I'm not sure but from the comments:

Motor Trend Channel 1 day ago
For those wondering, unfortunately Carlos has moved on from MT. This episode was shot a couple of months ago and serves as his last review for us. We wish him all the best!

I thought Carlos Lago left MotorTrend, and headed to Edmunds

I agree. Have booked a test drive request and brochure. Sadly might have to wait for some used ones to meet the budget demands, but definitely a car I'm hugely interested in.

Sadly i need a 2+2 seater, so it does rule out most of the reasonable priced and fun cars.

I watched that yesterday- I was really surprised the ND would out-accelerate and out-break the BRZ! Looks like a cracking car.

They are US figures - they use the rollout setting on the Vbox in order to replicate drag strip times.

Will there be an option for shorter springs like before?

The Mk4 seems to be unlucky for reviewers. The last episode of Top Gear featured the Mk4 too...

I'd imagine so, if not the after market will soon be on it. With a car reviewing this well, and the after market for all MX5s being quite large, I can imagine there's already frantic development work going on. It'll be interesting to see what the likes of BBR will do with it.

+1, though that (and the lap time comparison) could be due to different tyres more than anything else - not sure what yres the US market has on each of those cars.
