Hi

I have just bought my first mx5, a 2007 with the hard top, it has the Bose sound system with the 6 cd changer as well as having a connector in the glove box for an ipod, what i would really like though is to run the music from a usb stick using mp3s, does anyone know if i can either adapt the ipod connector to usb or remove it and have a usb?, i seen several on ebay but most say they are not compatible with the Bose or the changer.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It's probably more difficult than you think. The iPod will have software on it to play music and pass it to the car via the cable. A memory stick is just a storage device, so you would need software/hardware in the car that could read the memory stick and then play the files. It may be easier/cheaper just to buy a second hand iPod and just use that.

Easier to put the music on your phone and play it through the Aux port (I think it should have one).

I removed the iPod connector out the back of the head unit and fitted a Bluetooth connector, I was then able to play my music through my phone via that.

Check out http://gromaudio.co.uk

I fitted one for bluetooth/phone but audio works well too.

I ran a cable from the unit back to the storage box behind the seat (along the transmission tunnel) and that works fine for keeping the mp3 player out of sight. The audio seems better than the CD player which is unexpected.

I'm happy with this solution but I kind of wish I'd fitted a double-din music-player/gps to replace the Bose unit.
You can buy new facias cheaply: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Double-Radio-Installation-...
That's just for illustration, you can find them for about £25.

There is a nice video on youtube showing how to get the radio out (there's an annoying secret screw.

have a look at the Dension units>

I used to have one in my Alfa and it worked perfectly.

I built a custom unit for my MX5, so my current solution wouldn't work for you
