Still on the quest for an MX5, I wonder how much more it would bee to insure an import, rather than a UK car. I've heard it's more expensive, but, if you offset that against potential welding work, what might be more cost effective?

Mines an import. 250 quid with direct line. Magic.

Mine's an import. £190 with Footman James through the MX5 OC. I'm a really old fart though.

When I was looking it actually made virtually no difference. Particularly if you got one old enough to qualify for classic insurance. However I am also an old fart smile

Thanks guys. I'm in my early 40s, so perhaps an import should remain under my radar. Especially if it's condition is good.

I found it cheaper to insure an import, but required more legwork to find the deals. My 1994 1.8 S-Special costs £81.56 per year (specialist policy, limited to 3k miles, excludes commuting). That makes the road tax seem expensive! Footman James, btw.

as jobbo it takes a while to search around. I have had the eunos roadster for around £200. I did have a great deal with aviva and another car for me and the misus for £350.
Hope you find a good insurance deal.

My Eunos, a 1990 H plate 1.6, was £ 120-00 with 5K mileage per annum.
I'm 42 with 'none of the above apply'. Wife as a named driver.
All with 'Flux on a classic car policy.

This year will be £ 93-00 !!

Less than 100 quid for me too with footman James on a classic policy with mx5oc discount.
Only problem for some will be it doesn't earn ncb it being a classic policy.
No real bother for me personally though.

It's crazy that there can be a difference anyway. They're all made in the same Japanese factory after all.
