Cant engage reverse (mk1 1.8 96)

Can anybody advise please i cant engage reverse in my mk1 1996 1.8 71k, is this to do with a clutch slave cylinder?

Can you get any other gear is it when engine is on or off.

All other gears are fine, I can sometimes get in it but it getting rarer

i had some issues with getting reverse or first from cold. found two things. the cheap comma oil that i put in that was sold to me saying it is the right spec...so will be fine.
never going to touch comma oil again.

second was that at the rear diff one of the nuts was working off. so tightened this back up a couple of turns and both helped to return the car back to normal

is yours the same? if it is all the time could be gears. might be worth checking the oil level. have you ever checked it.
