Got thrashed by someone in a Daihatsu (very ashamed)
Discussion
Hey all,
Watch out for Daihatsu YRV's (wtf are these never seen one before).
Today I was enjoying a sunny, casual drive between towns on a national speed road which I know well. This guy in some unassuming silver hatchback junk was behind me but not tailgating, for some miles.
At a short stretch with 2 lanes the guy floored it and went past. This thing looks like a honda jazz, it wasn't pimped up or slammed by the boy racers in any way.
Despite a desperate last minute realisation what was about to happen and throwing it from 5th to 4th the guy zoomed past, no doubt laughing uncontrollably and giving me a nescafe handshake.
Watch out for these things, they are mx-5 killers.
Or maybe I need to drive mine a little quicker.

Straight line stuff is average at best; in the twisty bits and having the tits thrashed off them, they will upset higher powered machines no problem.
Not that I needed it, but I ended up with a turbo MX just so I could upset people on the straights, too
Childish though it is, nothing is more satisfying than sitting behind someone in a new Clio cup etc with that "Yep, I'm still here" smile on your face.

I hope you didn't try and stop him overtaking during the maneuver?!?!
If so, that is a dangerous and stupid thing to do. By all means try and get away from him before he overtakes or try and keep up afterwards (if it really is that important to you) but once anyone has started to pass, let them get on with it!
By the way, you sound like you need a 2L TDi if it is straight line shove you are after. MX5s have never been about being the fastest cars.

Very true. Even though my MX5 is supercharged and has 245bhp & 200lb/ft, my Merc C220 CDI still feels more powerful most of the time due to the 300lb/ft of torque pretty much all the time.Steve vRS said:
Dual carriageway or not, if someone is overtaking you, let them get on with it!
That's what happened, they got on with it and their torque won the day Next time though, he's be ready for them. Poor sod probably had to go really slow for the next 20 miles around the bendy bits as well. Gandahar said:

What a tt you are OP. Coming on a motoring forum and admitting to accelerating to stop someone passing you. You don't deserve an MX5 or even a licence.
I wasn't trying to stop him, there were TWO lanes. I do deserve my mx5, and my license.
Thanks for the positive and insightful post! Now go and read some Daily Mail

The Daily Mail readers on here completely misread what the OP was posting. Got all irrational and sweaty over it then tried to defend their mistake.
The original post was rather light hearted, I'm surprised he's had such an ear bashing by the people who perhaps have nothing better to do now that Points of View with Barry Took has gone. Why oh why oh why ....
That other guy in the MPV, or was it a traction engine, is probably laughing his socks off now on some other forum, calling him a hair dresser. And all the other forum members are banding around and laughing too, unlike on here.
It reminds me of that classic line in Austin Powers where he tells Vanessa "I'm Sorry That Bug Up Your Ass Had to Die"
There's nothing wrong with having a bit of fun with other chaps who do not just want to go A to B. For instance, I pulled up today at the lights, duel (sic) carriageway, and this Talbot Solara pulled up next to me. Dead meat I thought. So I looked over and my heart sank when I saw Chuck Norris was driving it.
It turns out that not only can Chuck Norris beat an MX5 NC away from the lights in a Talbot Solara but he can also make love to your wife, who was sitting in the passenger seat blithely minding her own business, before the next set of lights.
Three times. I should have put the roof up
