Second MX5 Mk2.5 VVT etc. First one was a great little car for years and 50,000 miles then the current fixer upper turned up locally. Less than 40,000 miles, so seemed a good deal. Usual sill problems now sorted but not yet painted, and unusual damage to the driver's side chassis rail and the little outrigger from the end of the rail to the sill under the footwell. With rust and so on cleaned off I think some moron jacked it in the wrong places and tore the rail, also crushing the outrigger. Rail repair was not too bad to do and the outrigger straightened remarkably well with the judicious application of a jack and a jemmy(all good burglars should have at least one)requiring only a small patch and revealing that the inner structure still mostly painted. I've removed the various braces from underneath to paint them too - nearly finished. Still quite a bit to do in terms of undersealing etc, hope I don't find any horrors. Thank goodness I'm retired and still supple enough to squeeze underneath the damned thing!
