Been out today looking at a couple of mk2 MX5s, found the steering wheel very low, almost on my thighs

Is a mk3 MR2 better in this respect?

Not IMO. They're tiny inside.

I almost bought one but after inspection it had started to eat its own cat and was rattling away as a lot of them do.

On the mr2?

I will be mooching about this weekend, see if I can fit in

Been told there's a bit more room in a mk1 MX5?

From what ive seen personally they have a habit of odd engine death, urban myth or not they're meant to eat their precats and knacker the engine, happened to my brothers.

No they didn't. I misread it as mk3. Must go to Specsavers. Apologies.

I seem to have a choice of a rusty but reliable MX5, or a sound but suspect MR2!

Maybe z3 is the answer...

I've had two mk3 MR2s and now have a mk1 MX5.

Not sure I can help on the interior space thing as I'm a relatively short arse but there was definitely a lot more elbow room in the MR2, I feel like i'm a bit more squashed in in the MX5.

As for the reliability issues, I would avoid a pre-facelift Mk3 MR2, so basically anything beyond an 03 plate and with foglights in the grille should be fine.

Yep, have a pre face lift Mk3 with no engine.

To be fair though it's got decent engineering, and it's been nicely put together.
New engine coming tomorrow. Can't wait.
