People make what they think is the best decision.
Many people believe that everybody else is the same as they are.
Then they see other people make a different decision, and decide these other people are wrong. Because they made a different decision.
When the 2nd group of people are choosing MX5, everybody else decides they are making the wrong decision.
Because so many people do decide MX5 compared to other single models, it makes them stand out as a group.
TL:DR?
Most people are thick. Don't worry about them.

I've not seen many examples of MX5 hate on PH tbh. But who cares anyway, just had a lovely drive home in the sun in my 92 NA. My allegedly nice 2 year old German front wheel drive diesel car (business motor I'm afraid) sits in the driveway whenever possible in lieu of my cheap hairdressers motor. Let the haters hate!

I've just got a 2006 Sport and all I get is closet envy from those who've never driven one and praise from those who have.
I get stupid remarks all the time from my fellow Corvette owners but there again what can you expect from medallion wearing hairy chested white trousered yee-haw Budweiser swilling men anyway?I've had many Corvettes too including the famed ZR1 and can tell you you can't have more fun than driving an MX5 around the twisties any day. Let's see most other cars keep up, let along for the pence it costs to buy and run an MX5.
There is plenty of hate that I have noticed. It was always going to happen though, 5-6 years ago "MX-5" was the default answer to most what car threads.
Now it seems to be the in thing to dislike MX5s, possibly because of their popularity. So I've concluded that MX5s are too mainstream and that most of PH are intact hipsters!
BTW, I only have 130bhp and a full head of thick hair!

I can honestly say that I never thought I would own an MX5.
Had one as a courtesy car some years ago and found it to be lacking in power and 'rolling' around corners.
Having owned a Mazda 6 Estate (2.0ltr petrol), for 10 years I was very impressed with Mazda engineering and styling.
I was looking to get an MGB GT but did not want too much of a project / maintenance car at the moment so decided on those 3 words...cheap reliable fun!
I now own a 2006 MX5.
Fyi....I used to drive a 4.5ltr TVR Chimaera

I always wanted another one. The trick is to keep the TVR too. Had one as a courtesy car some years ago and found it to be lacking in power and 'rolling' around corners.
