Hello all - first post on here though I'm a regular reader.

I should introduce myself (well - the car at least) - a 1993 UK MX5 1.6 in silver with 40k miles on the clock, and a little light rust around the edges...

I bought the car a couple of years ago from a lady who'd had it 19 years and seemingly barely driven it in the last five. It had been garaged throughout. I've done 9,000 miles in 2 years without a hitch. In that time I've fitted GAZ adjustable suspension, new disks, pads, calipers all round, HEL braided brake lines, full services with plugs and Magnacor ignition leads. New Panasonic gel battery fitted last year. The daisy style wheels have been refurbed and its had new tyres all round. Its a sweet little thing that handles great (You knew that already, right) and is just about quick enough.

My original intention was to refurbish it and get the body work and rusty bits tidied up - that was until I got seduced by the shiny new Mk4. So I now have a decision to make before the new car arrives in September:

- Enjoy it as it is and sell it on as is.
- Get it refurbished (probably needs a re-spray and a pair of wings) budget £2k then sell it.
- get it refurbished and keep it... (hide it from the wife somewhere...)

Just wondered what I should do. I'm convinced its a modern classic and with such low miles in a desirable and original condition might be worth keeping. I'm a sucker for pop up lights.

Am I deluding myself?
Did I make a mistake ordering a mk4?

Please be open and as critical or constructive as you like.

Cheers

Adam

Keep it if you can, use the mk4 and keep the mk 1 good for when they will be recognised for the classics they are. Like I should have done with Midgets, Minis, Escorts and BMW 2002 that I sold in the past for peanuts just at the wrong time.

Do as I say, not as I do, I've got an immaculate 1994 mk1 Eunos that I really should be looking after but I just can't help enjoying it to the max.

if i could find the money and a dry garage then that would be my preference too. At the moment I have neither...

it's taxed again after a winter SORN, so i'll do as you do and drive it.

The question remains is it worth restoring?

If its worth £1500 now (give or take) would it be worth £3500 or more restored? Is 40k miles sufficiently low to make it collectable or is it just another of the hundreds of thousands of cars out there...

To restore or not to restore - that is the question.

It's genuine with history - I suspect it'll be for sale early August.
