Knocking from engine after track day
Discussion
Hey,
Recently did a track day at Silverstone as part of the PistonHeads Sunday Service a few weeks ago.
Before going the engine was running fine except for a faint ticking, which I understand is a normal trait for an MX5 engine (Hydraulic Lash Adjusters?), but since returning it's developed into more of a knocking noise.
The noise is clear when accelerating and on the overrun. I haven't had a any loss of power and it doesn't make the noise when the engine is cold. Listening to the engine whilst stationary and revving, it sounds like it's coming from the top end, but I could be wrong.
Any ideas guys?
(Yes, I have checked oil!)
Thank you...

If you have a long screwdriver or piece of metal rod place one end on the engine, the other to your ear. Moving it around the engine whilst it's running should narrow down where the knock is coming from.
Take care with rotating parts, belts etc. though otherwise you can damage yourself.....
Cheers, Pewe.
