Mk2.5 brake pads rattling

Hi all,

I had some new front brake pads fitted about six months ago and pretty much within a few weeks they started rattling. They've rattled ever since on anything other than the smoothest road surface.
My local Mazda dealer said I needed slider pins and a shim kit, but I read somewhere that these weren't strictly necessary.

Anyone know if this is all I would need and if they are simple to fit myself?

I'm guessing it's not a 1.8 Sport then...

If it isn't then no, the springs aren't absolutely essential (but they do stop them rattling) but you do need all the shims & clips.
The 1.8 Sport brakes don't have any springs, just the shims & clips.
