Am I right in thinking that the roof will only operate when the car is stationary, ie completely inoperable when moving?

Ordinarily, that's my understanding.

The gear lever needs to be in neutral, and the boot closed too. I thought it might be possible to coast in neutral (e.g. rolling up to traffic lights) but it wouldn't operate.

If you fit a SmarTop module then you can operate the roof while moving. You're limited to around 40mph, but it's fantastic for that moment when you've just stopped at lights and they go green.

I have the smart top module fitted and its excellent for the sudden downpour situation ! Looks pretty cool when you pulling in or leaving the Tesco car park (only joking). Quite expensive though !

If you buy one, make sure you do so during one of MX5Parts' 10%-off bank holiday weekend deals.

Quite difficult to release the connectors (quite fiddly to get in and depress the tabs). Instructions are good - just don't get too rough in frustration !

I agree. Take your time.

I've fitted mine twice (in 2 difference cars). Second time was easier. A small screwdriver (e.g. the sort that comes on a very small penknife) can help with unclipping the connector.
