Hi, was in the market for an MX5 and just wondered what you guys do as far as insurance is concerned on a second vehicle?

MX5 will be purely for weekend fun and the odd summer night drive with the Mrs.

Has anyone used Admiral multi car ins as they seem to be coming out best for price at the mo. ?

I have 16yrs no claims but the discount can only be used on one car and the 2nd has to be taken without the discount ..............or am I missing something ?

Seems expensive for a few thousand miles a year that's all ? grumpy

Flux charge me around about £200 fully comp for my Mk1 Turbo, 5,000 smiles per year.

Maybe worth a classic policy rather than a Multi???

If you can find a suitable old MX5 you can go for classic insurance. With MX5OC discount my insurance from footman james was less than £100! no NCB needed on a classic policy either.

Hi There
I tried Admiral and a couple of other multi policy companies, but due to costs as you say only no claims on one car. Went with Lancaster on a classic policy 6ooo miles a year cost around £ 150. You know what really annoys me re the insurance thing is that you cant have no claims on more than one car, its the person that's driving the car, so to me if you have x amount of no claims in my case over 10 years, does that not mean you are a good risk. Why we get penalised is beyond me but there will be reasoning somewhere I don't doubt (rant over) The only other thing you don't get ncb after a year even with no accidents on a classic policy, I stand to be corrected.
Cheers

Just moved our fleet over to Admiral. We have a Jeep Grand Cherokee, Porsche Boxster, Eunos Mk1 The Jeep & the Eunos have full class 1 biz use & the Boxster is SDP.
The Boxster renewal came in for 31st Mar at £460, so I ran it through the Meerkats & admiral were cheapest at £430. They phoned me & suggested a multicar policy. The Box came in at £420, the Jeep is £120 (was £320) & the Eunos which has an accident that hasn't been shut down so no NCB will be £250ish (was £410 when we renewed in Jan)
So overall a massive saving. Each car will have a standalone policy, earn its own NCB. So it looks like it works for me.

I've got Admiral Multicar insurance at the moment, i've had this for a few years and its always been good never really had a major problem. You have to watch they get all the details right on each individual certificate of motor insurance, i've had a few mistakes on mine and they have charged me an admin fee to correct their mistakes. Otherwise they have been good as far as insurers go.

There's just one thing i've found this year…

I insure between 4 and 5 cars on mine, at the moment i'm down to 4, however i've just had the renewal details come through and the interest rate has gone up and my insurance, i pay monthly, and it's going to cost me about another £1000 a year!! I also have mine insured for business use as well.

If anyone else knows of any other Multicar insurers out there i'd be interested to know as well.

Admiral mirrored my no claims to my second car when I took out my multicar policy, dropped the price massively.

All ours are on an Admiral multi-car policy, and it's saved us hundreds. However, each year, when the renewal notice arrives, go onto their website and get a new quote as it always comes up cheaper. Then, phone Admiral and get them to match it. I saved over £300 off their renewal price this year.

I've found all the insurance companies play the same trick: give you a good price the first year, and hope you don't double-check when the renewal comes through.

I use the Aviva multi car policy.
Both Discovery D4 and MK3 NC sport are covered for £400 per year.

Just an update, went with Admiral in the end, £562 quoted on line, when I rang to confirm increased to £752 ! headache

Turns out only the main named driver is covered for personal loss, ie if my partner was driving she wouldn't be covered for anything ie loss of a limb or blinded in the event of an own fault accident ! eek
.......be careful out there guys and check your policies as she said it's only explained in the small print on line!!

Oh and I went on a speed awareness course last year for doing 34mph in a 30 limit no points etc .........they upped the premium by £96 !

I had a policy with Adrian Flux for my Camaro which allowed me to build up a second no claims - I had 4 years on it when I sold the Camaro. Esure insured my Mk3 MX-5 and accepted the 4 years NC when I passed over the documentation from AF confirming it. So my premium was about 240 quid I think. Cheapest I found for me, anyway.
