Chaps,

no surprises here but the rear tyres on the turbo'd Mk1 are nearing the end of their useful life. i currently have 205/50 15' Yoko AD08's, as fitted when i bought the car, and to be honest these seem a good tyre. Great grip in the dry and real strong sidewalls. Question is, does anyone run 195's with power circa 200bhp and if so do they cope, and would they affect grip/handling in any way? I do plan to keep with the Yoko's as they seem good value for money. 195's are slightly cheaper but i would pay for 205's if the grip/handling was compromised.

The 195 Toyo T1r's on the normally aspirated one are great for the power they need to handle and allow plenty of slippage when provoked, though im not sure if these would be any good with the additional power of the charger. Anyone had experience of these on a charged model?

thanks in advance

Darren

195 tyres are perfectly fine in the dry with that sort of power level IME.

I run 205/40/17 T1R on the road, just because I like those wheels and prefer how they feel to my lightweight 15s. On track I use 195/50/15 and have no problem at all with grip/traction.

195 Yokohamas on mine. Good traction, especially with suspension relatively soft/compliant.

Interestingly 195 Yokohamas are WAY wider than some other brands 195 tyre.

To be honest - I would seriously consider going to 184 tyre on 14" rims for the sweeter handling - the reason I havent is not traction, but braking - with more power, you arrive at things faster, and with no ABS either, it really needs the higher level of grip on the road to be sensible. Sliding about if fun but sliding into things isnt!
