NC Real world mpg
Discussion
I think it depends very much on how you drive and what type of roads... mine is anywhere from 16mpg on track to 35+ on a steady motorway run. Since most of my use is shorter runs through town thrashing along b-roads, my average is about 25-28mpg, although I suspect many will do significantly better than that!

I don't do track but I also get around these figures, possibly slightly better for B-roads.Thank you, owners.
The picture is becoming clear! I used to get 28 to 35 from my Mini Cooper so it sounds similar to that.
Mazda says...
Combined
36.2 mpg
Extra Urban
46.3 mpg
Urban
25.9 mpg
...but no-one seems to be achieving that top-end figure, which comes as no surprise. What else is to be expected from a rev-hungry little beastie like the MX-5?
I'll be driving one soon but the order (of whatever) will be happening in May.

Thank you, gentlemen.
I've a pretty accurate picture now. The model I'm considering is the Sport Venture in roadster form. The 1.8i comes with a 5-speed cogbox but no LSD.
This model was released in 2014 and the pricing is more attractive than an SE with the same goodies bolted on...not that all can be chosen.
I'll be changing cars in July so test drives come next. If the MX-5 is the winner, I'll be back...

Around 28 - 42 mpg for non-city driving.
City driving averages about 16mph, and I've seen the mpg go as low as around 18 on short journeys.
