Hi,

I'm investigating getting an NC MX5, the Sport Venture model. My only question for you good folk is simply what mpg do you get in real life?

Thank you.

I think it depends very much on how you drive and what type of roads... mine is anywhere from 16mpg on track to 35+ on a steady motorway run. Since most of my use is shorter runs through town thrashing along b-roads, my average is about 25-28mpg, although I suspect many will do significantly better than that!

Thanks! I live in the Lake District so it's a mix of A-roads and twiddlies with minimal town work. Also a 200-mile m/way run to South Manchester about once a month. I tend to cruise at an indicated 75mph (Scirocco GT diesel).

I don't do track but I also get around these figures, possibly slightly better for B-roads.

p just about 30 which is rubbish for a small Jap car, if it were a Honda it would be well over 40.

Thank you, owners.

The picture is becoming clear! I used to get 28 to 35 from my Mini Cooper so it sounds similar to that.

Mazda says...

Combined
36.2 mpg

Extra Urban
46.3 mpg

Urban
25.9 mpg

...but no-one seems to be achieving that top-end figure, which comes as no surprise. What else is to be expected from a rev-hungry little beastie like the MX-5?

I'll be driving one soon but the order (of whatever) will be happening in May.

Everyday average around 32/33. If I get on the motorway, stick at 55/60 and reset the mpg gauge I can get 40 odd over 25 miles.

Around 28 - 42 mpg for non-city driving.

City driving averages about 16mph, and I've seen the mpg go as low as around 18 on short journeys.

I've got an 04 plate 1.8 SV-T and get 300 miles on 40 litres on a mix of roads/motorways, With my 1.6 V reg Mk2 it used to be 280 miles for the same journeys. So the 6 speed gearbox and slightly taller gearing has made it more economical despite the larger engine capacity.

Thank you, gentlemen.

I've a pretty accurate picture now. The model I'm considering is the Sport Venture in roadster form. The 1.8i comes with a 5-speed cogbox but no LSD.

This model was released in 2014 and the pricing is more attractive than an SE with the same goodies bolted on...not that all can be chosen.

I'll be changing cars in July so test drives come next. If the MX-5 is the winner, I'll be back...

You know full well that it's not a track car, and really shouldn't be used on track...

Croft's fun but I can't commit to any more time off work at the moment. It's very busy at the moment, and I've taken a lot of days off already this year.
