I have access to a lovely set of seats from a Mk2 that I want to put into my Mk1, unfortunately I have the seatbelt stalk attached to the transmission tunnel in mine so a straight swap over is not possible.

Does anyone know whether it is feasible to remove the seats from the runners and just swap the seats over, keeping the original seatbelts in situ?

Why don't you just remove the seat belt sockets from the mk2 seats and just use the mk1 sockets?

If the Mk2 was a scrapper this would be fine but as it will still be used this would leave me with a Mk2 with no functioning seatbelts.

Oh right sorry I didn't realise you wanted to put the mk1 seats in the mk2. I've heard of some people bolting mk1 seatbelts to the transmission tunnel of a mk2, the press mark for where the threaded insert should be on the mk2 transmission tunnel as its the same as the tunnel in the mk1. You just need to drill a hole through there and put an insert in there or bolt straight through.

Yes you can remove the seats from teh runners easily - 4 bolts. The Mk2 seats will fit on the Mk1 runners no problem. Whether the Mk1 seats will fit on the Mk2 runners you'll have to find out for yourself but I expect they will - depends on what the Mk2 seat-belt bracket is like. There were a few different versions through the years.
