Wifes tidy 91 MK1 Eunos failed on handbrake and the cable is fine and the lever too, the calipers adjust properly and slide well. Are they all bad?
The car gets an easy life so would an Italian tune up to stress the pads help?
Any other tips?

My kit car using MX5 suspension seems okay but only weighs 650 kilo's.

How far do you have to pull the lever before the handbrake engages?
If it's quite far the calipers probably just need adjusting. You should tighten them up until you can't rotate the disc and then back them off a quarter turn.

Thanks for the help. I have tried the offending caliper off the car and put on one that I had on my kit car and the handbrake works just about ok but I had forgotten that the car had new rear pads and need a bit of bedding in. The useless caliper I found that the arm had gone beyond its working limit and that the adjuster is crucial to the handbrake so your advice was correct.

Going to go out in it now and get her to do some heavy braking from speed, she is a driving instructor so is used to sticking to the law!!
