I've just fitted one of these to a standard 1.8 Eunos airbox after reverting from a dodgy looking foam cone near the exhaust. I assumed that an MX5 one would be the same size. Wrong! The Eunos one is smaller and is the same as the Miata panel filter. Anyway Demon Tweeks were very helpful and accepted my returned item which I posted on Saturday. The replacement arrived yesterday and I fitted it in the car park at work in a couple of minutes. Faster with practice!

I seem to recall mk1 are smaller than mk2, but didn't know the import boxes were a different size too.

I don't think they are different. That wouldn't make much sense. More likely that they sent the wrong one the first time.

It does seem strange. I got the airbox out of a crashed NA import. The chap at Demon Tweaks and I looked at the specifications on K&N's US website and agreed that the dimensions and square corners of the Miata one tallied with the paper one I got out of the donor airbox (definitely a 1.8). Anyway, the replacement fitted like a dream and theoretically should outlast the car now so I won't have to worry about it again!
