Mazda 6 - Hard to change gears

Hi,
Not sure if this is the correct place post this....
Just wondering if anyone has any idea what is causing the following issue l'm having with my Mazda 6 2.2D?
The issue starts with the car being ever so slightly hard to change gear. Then over the next week or 2 this gets more and more difficulty until l think this is too dangerous to drive then suddenly the issue disappears. It will then work fine again until the issue starts reoccurring. This has happen about 3 times now over the last few months. At the moment it is working fine and has done so for the last 2 weeks now.
I took it into the garage but the problem had disappeared by the time l took it in so they could only guess what the issue was without further investigation. They think it needs a new clutch & fly wheel based on the problem.
Does anyone have experience of this?
