Hi,
My 2002 Mazda 6 failed its MOT on Saturday due to outer sill corrosion.

1) Nearside rear (outer sill) seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded
2) Offside rear (outer sill) seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded
3)Nearside rear (outer arch) seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded

The garage has quoted £200 for the welding work and I just wanted to ask a couple of things.
Is this the start of more issues with rust or is this quite common?
When the plastic covers are removed is this likely to show even more serious rust?
Its a real shame as no other advisories on it and there was nothing last year either....only has 67k on it.
Cheers.

I know nothing at all about Mazda 6 (this is an MX5/Miata/Eunos Roadster forum) but I suspect the answers are: Yes & Yes.

Mazda 6s rust worse than mx5 and yes those plastic covers will hide a lot more rust. You will never stop rust once its in its almost impossible to get rid of it.
