On the run down to the Goodwood breakfast club this morning, I noticed that several other Mk1s were running on sidelights with the headlights still retracted, but on my car putting on the sidelights raises the main lamps. Am I missing something or are some cars wired differently?

I believe it was mainly the UK cars were set up with side lights on, headlights up, and the Japs were set up for side lights on, head lights down.

Some versions had the side light in the actual head light itself, hence why they needed to pop up, but I’m not sure what year models had this.

There is a mod you can google to stop the head lights from coming up, when you switch sidelights on, but it all depends on how much you hate the headlights popping up when you only want side lights.

I did this mod on my K reg UK car. All you have to do is pull out a rely from the fuse box on the passenger side. Think it's called H22.
From what I can remember from when I looked though, some of the older cars are wired differently so pulling said relay will have a different effect.

Thanks chaps, I'll have a look at removing the relay and see what stops working.
