So after several years I'm looking to get back into an mx5. I used have a nice little mk 1 but unfortunately she died a rusty death.

I've spotted what looks to be a tidy mk3.5 on this here website. Biggest selling point is obviously mileage, seems very low. Looks to be in good nick from the pics so may look to arrange a visit.

I was just wondering if I could be so rude as to ask for some advice/input. Anyone provide any thoughts? Good/bad price? Anything in particular I should look out for (already got the fantastic buyers guide to hand) etc?

Many thanks.

How low? Not sure what the problem is? I think a lot of Mx5's are weekend cars rather than daily drivers so annual mileages would be low.

Updated post. Link should now work. Bad choice of words also so edited.

No problem. Just after some friendly advice/opinions from people who know what to look for with mk3s.

looks OK to me on a quick glance... be sure to do all the usual checks, a proper HPI as well.

remember that as standard these has 11 VIN number stickers on the panels, which are quite hard to replicate... check they are all there and not raised. this gives a good indication if the car has had any accident damage.

there is a good guide here, along with the location of the security stickers

I shopped around when getting mine looking for low miles and I also checked what tyres were on every corner of it. Some people put absolute turds for tyres on each corner and you'll find you're having to replace the whole lot shortly after getting the car adding at least over £300 to the price of the car. I ended up with Continental contisport 3's on each corner and they've lasted pretty well. Some of the cars I looked at had different makes and models on each corner and cheap nasty ones at that. Bad tyres especially on an mx5 can be awful

IT says

Taxed/MOT until April 2015

However with the new tax doesn't it now start afresh when you buy it, the previous owner has to reclaim the unused months and you will have to tax it from that point.

So I'd use that to haggle the price a bit. The seller might not even be aware of the new rule.

Yep. It's a way for the government to swindle a bit more money out of us.
Sell a car mid month and the old owner will claim back the unused whole months (i.e. from the end of the current month) and the new owner will have to re-tax from the start of the current month. The government keep the difference.

That's if the seller at the moment even realises they can do it!

I'm not sure why they did not keep the old system.

Cheers for the info guys.

I paid the guy a visit and the car was lovely. Unfortunately he ended up pulling out of the sale as changed his mind and has decided not to sell.

Fortunately for me, I found another and put a deposit down woo.

As of Sunday I'll be the proud owner of a 2009 Copper Red mk3.5 Sport Tech with 27k on the clock smile
