I recently purchased a 2010 Sport Tech from a Mazda dealer (my first MX5 and loving it!) . This came with the optional 18" wheels, currently shod with Bridgestone RE050A 225/40R18 88Y tyres.

Unfortunately, it seems like they're not available with that load rating any more - they only list 92Y on their site. Am I likely to have any issues going to a slightly stiffer tyre?

Alternatively, are there any recommendations for a 'better' tyre to use? Car is used as daily driver all year round, no track use, so needs a decent general purpose tyre.

I'm sort of pondering the same question myself after buying my first 5 (25th AE). I'm no expert but I wouldn't see it being an issue at all, I cant imagine any negative affects from a slightly higher load rating. My money says you won't notice any difference.

i emailed Bridgestone about this yesterday - apparently the RE050A has been replaced with the S001. This does have the same load 88 load rating, so I'll probably give them a try soon..
