Hello, I'm looking for clutch recommendation
Discussion
Have a '96 mx5 which I want to turbo, need some advice on what is best middle Road clutch, something that can handle a td04 without making it undrivable in traffic, I'm looking for something i can buy in the UK for a max £300. My mechanic is exedy dealer but he said to ask on here as he isn't sure on what to fit. I don't want to order from the US if possible
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance
A stage 1 clutch should be fine unless you're tracking it, or looking at obscene levels of power. It'll have uprated pressure plate and springs.
A stage 2 and upwards, you're starting to change the clutch material and shapes, introducing pucks/paddles which makes driving in town a little trickier as the clutch will grab more
I've got an Exedy stage 1 on my supercharged MK2.5 and it does the job nicely.

Mine had a new stock Mk2.5 1.8 clutch fitted to fix clutch-judder back in 2003. It's still running on this clutch despite being supercharged and running well over 220bhp (currently around 240bhp) since 2004. This includes a few trips to Santa Pod and quite a few track days.
Is your car a mk2.5, i saw you have a 2001 not sure what mk that is. Would the 2,5 fit my mk1 ? I rather keep it stock but also I would hate to have to do it twice . Thanks for the reply Mine is a Mk2.5 but the 1.8 clutch is the same from Mk1 1994 to Mk2.5 2005.
I'm not saying that a stock clutch is fine for everyone and an upgrade wouldn't be preferable, just that it's worth not changing until you actually have a clutch problem as you might find, like I have, that you don't get an problem.

Hard to say torque figures, I guess under 200. Thanks for taking time to reply, really helping me out. Just got an email from FM , $330 for the clutch $115 for postage and I guess £80 odd for duty and vat . Guess a standard exedy clucth is around £140, eurocarparts are doing 15% off at the moment. From what I understandard the standard factory clutches on eunos were made by exedy

The breather hoses are too big for my current battery so im leaving the boot open, thats why i was going for the mx5parts battery as probably breather hoses will be right. Guess it fixes my problem Does the clamp fit ok over it ? Thanks for the advice i already saved 200 odd quid thumbs up
