Posted this in the track day forum but rather hidden so didnt get the love I was after. Thought I would put it up here for people that would appreciate it a bit more! Hopefully!

Had a fantastic day at Silverstone on Tuesday at the Gold Track event. I'll happily admit being a little intimidated by the exotica on display (Enzo, P1, Koenigsegg, GT3 RS 4.0, Radicals, etc.. ) but my humble little '5 was still able to deliver on the fun factor.

A few issues with over heating, but nothing a hole cutter and turning the heating on couldnt fix (although a new, considerably thicker rad will be ordered as the old one is well past it's best).

Anyways - said new holes in the front bumper made for a perfect bumper shot mounting point for my HD camera. Quite happy with the results.

Vid 1 - me driving - very busy, skip to 6:40 for some Enzo "chasing" - http://youtu.be/pvMSXXU9ckw

Vid 2 - my dad driving - a lot less traffic - http://youtu.be/tsX80kety_U

Enjoy!

When doing your rad consider changing all the water hoses for a decent silicone set as well. A fairly easy job, just fiddly, and not a lot of extra money for the peace of mind knowing that something's not going to let go at an inopportune moment.

Also worth thinking about an oil temp gauge, so you can keep an eye on oil temp. A sandwich plate under the oil filter is probably the easiest place to put the temp sender.

Oil temp was the biggest issue on track in my unmodified mk1, eventually resolved by fitting an oil cooler. I had a cooler custom fabricated and plumbed in with bits from Thinkauto. I'd buy all off the shelf bits if doing it again, the fabricator in his wisdom mounted the cooler on the flimsy engine undertray and I ended up re-doing it all. Cost £££. If I was doing it now I'd go for one of these, http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/radiator-cooler-mk1225-p..., still not cheap but a nice neat solution.
