Chaps, my mk1 has a broken rear spring which is pretty common I think. It's broken right down the bottom but doesn't seam to be effecting handling at all. Thing is, I have a weekend track day in Anglesey coming up and then I'm taking her off the road for a year or so. Can this wait to be sorted when it reemerges from hibernation or would doing a track day with a broken spring be a bad idea.

Thanks in advance

I would change it just to avoid worrying about it. It's only a spring, it wouldn't take long to change.

I wouldn't knowingly do a track day with a broken suspension component, always the risk that the extra forces could dislodge it and cause you, or someone else, grief.

You can pick up a new spring from a scrappy for beer money, then a decent garage shouldn't be more than about £50 to fit it.

Careful though, in my case a broken rear spring began as a like for like change, then the damper started leaking and man maths worked out that the best solution was £600 full adjustable coilovers all round!

I've got a full set of MK1 1.8 springs and shocks in the shed. Came off a 100,000 mile car about 4 years ago... Yours for a donation to charity.

Only any use if you happen to live near wolverhampton though.

Thanks to you all for the replies, you are of course right, i need to get it changed or something bad will happen...

Munter, this is a very kind offer, thanks you. I do live in the south but need to make a trip your your neck of the woods in the next month or so. Maybe nearer the time i could contact you to see if it works for you...Donation to charity no problem and some booze for you!

No problem. Though if you have that sort of time in hand it might be more convenient to get a spring someone has looked at and decided is ok. autolink sell used springs for £15 http://www.autolinkmx5.com/spring-mx-5-mk1-rear-us...

Thanks for the link, this is definetly the way to go as it would cost me more than that in Fuel to get to you and back! Thanks again for the offer, it was much appreciated.
