Respraying the Mk1 - what colour?
Discussion
The lacquer peel has increased loads over the last 6 months and is looking pretty bad so I think I'm going to get it resprayed.
It's currently the vin rouge/merlot colour but was originally just the normal mk1 red. I don't really like the original bright red and was thinking about a change from what it is now (although I do like the darker colour).
Has anyone ever gone off-factory colour or would you? Was thinking about somewhere in between the two.

I saw one that had been done in a deep red, it looked very good. Not as in your face as the normal red. Sometimes I think mine is a bit too bright.
As my car is red and I have such a good relationship with the DVLA I was thinking a deep or Kandy red for mine. Not too J-Tuner and not a standard colour either. A word of warning where it comes to custom colours. One scratch and the car is
I have a mate who runs a Porsche dealership and garage. 997 Guards Red looks nice and I can get it at cost price.
Slightly off MX5 red but a factory colour so repairs will be a thousand times easier.

I'd just wet sand the lacquer back and put some deep clear over the original paint. It's currently the vin rouge/merlot colour but was originally just the normal mk1 red. This is what I was thinking of for mine but I have been given an exceptional offer for it.

That is a nice in-between colour. Saw this video of the P1 in a lovely similar colour clickyThis is what I was thinking of for mine but I have been given an exceptional offer for it.
Nice helmet camera too....
How about something like the 25th Anniversary colour? I have always suspected that something like that might be quite nice on a Mk1. http://www.mazda.com/stories/craftmanship/mx-5/mx-...

If you quite like the colour (and darker ones) then one option is a colour similar to mine. It shows up nearly black in a lot of light, but in certain light conditions you get the purple showing through. It's the main reason I bought the car - perhaps a bit stupid as it seems a bit of a lemon potentially, :s
I had a ZX9R that colour. Everyone else had green, blue or red but I liked the stealthynss of it. Gassing Station | Mazda MX5/Roadster/Miata | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
