Just had my mk3 remapped by skuzzel motorsport, well worth it, the car feels completely different. He has played with the throttle response, it is now much more aggressive, also cam timing, and fuel mixture, also for a bit of fun he has told the ecu to blip the throttle on gear change down. I all ready had the car fitted with a more free flowing exhaust with the secondary cat removed and a k&n appolo filter. The car is now making 181.9 hp and you really can feel the difference on the road really would recommend him he specialises in all mx5s

I had skuzzle do my mk1 on wednesday too - can't fault the guy. Works hard and knows what he's doing - i was sat on the pass seat watching him tune the maps on the dyno. very reasonable pricing too, would definitely take my car there again for more work.

got to a safe 180bhp at the wheels (after taking down the plug gap so it wasn't blowing out)

Mine was there on Thursday getting a harsh vibration sorted out. He has also given my MP62 charger a full service with new bearings. I'll be back soon to get it remapped. A good guy who seems to know his stuff!

I'm in the middle if charging my 5. The used kit came with a megasquirt ecu. I've heard great things about nick

Any idea what sort of money I will be looking at for a session that produced 2 switchable maps?

I'd like one which was tuned for reliability and reserved power for normal use. Just using the standard charger components. Then a second one which made use of the knock sensor and meth injection kit that came with my charger for switching to before a track day etc

Really looking forward to getting my MK 3.5 sport tech done by Blink Motorsport in Cheshire. They fitted some Ohlins coil overs for me last year and I called in the other day to book a service. Got talking to the guys there and Richard took me out for a drive in their remapped demonstrator that had some nice features such as flat floor shifting.
After a 'wallet lightning' session I have decided to go for their NC Power package which includes a new manifold, free flowing air filter an a re-map!
Booked in for the 6th June so will keep you updated - can't wait :-)

Hi Douglas don't go for the flate floor shifting, it will kill your cats, it works by stopping a spark as you change gear but still allows the fuel and that unburnt fuel will kill your cat over a period of time:-)

Another thumbs up for Skuzzle. He's that good i trailered mine down there Via Iguana on this forum so he could work his magic.

He's done all the work on mine since i went down the supercharging route and now running about 200-205bhp at the fly. Was down a couple of weeks ago for a new JR 4-2-1 manifold, Innovate Wideband and an MOT. There's no job big or small he can't do.

Both maps you'll want to have use of some knock sensor, whether it's yours or his. to set up the MS to pull timing with knock is a fairly simple affair i think.

I think he charges 70 an hour for dyno mapping. Totally guessing but 3 hours max sounds reasonable to me for two maps.

When I get mine tuned I always make sure to stress that I want a very safe map so it can cope with heavy track use. It makes sense to me that for road use you can be more aggressive with mapping as you don't really get to use all the power for long on the road whereas on track you run at full power for extended periods which pushes all temperatures to maximum and the slightest issue (some duff fuel, air temp higher than expected, air filter a bit blocked etc.) can cause big problems.

In fact, when mine is tuned I use cheap 97RON super fuel rather than the best Super I can get as some tracks don't have a good local source of higher octane fuel and it also gives a little more emergency headroom when I do use Shell + Nitro/Tesco 99 etc.

Another big +1 for Skuzzle Motorsport. Nick honestly is the best MX5 specialist in the country, he really does know his stuff. He's very well respected in the MX-5 arena, the only people who slate him are his competitors. Only ever heard one negative comment about Nick's work and that guy was an idiot anyway.

I won't argue about Nicks ability (I don't doubt it is good)but I will say that unless you have visited all the best MX5 specialists around the country (and there are some very good ones!) Then it would be hard for you to judge?
The MX5 community is very well served in the UK with extremely good independents all over the UK.
