fuel pipe connections
Discussion
Can someone with a mk1 1.8 please confirm that I have my fuel hoses connected to the fuel rail the right way around?
My workshop manual doesn't specify which way they connect, so I've copied from a 1992 1.6, but I want to be sure it's correct on a 1.8 given that there is some sort of little vacuum thingy on one pipe on the fuel rail and I don't know if it will work with the hoses reversed.
Of the 2 metal pipes coming into the engine bay, I have the front pipe (and shorter fuel hose) connected to the rear inlet pipe on the fuel rail, and the rear pipe on the chassis uses the longer hose and bends around to the front fuel rail inlet.
thanks
James

FYI The pipe at the rear is the return to the tank. The pipe at the front /forward end of the fuel rail is the inlet. The funny vacuum you mention thing is the pressure regulator - that's why its at the end, after the injectors to regulate the relative fuel pressure they have behind them.
The feed, as above, is the one that squirts fuel out when you turn the ign on - only test this if your careful and sensible!
Well I found the rattle - it was my home-made exhaust heatshield
It now just sounds like a diesel engine at idle, so I'm hoping that the old cambelt was installed a bit out so my line-up mark on the CAS is wrong and now the timing is off with the new belt, fingers crossed.... I'll get the timing gun on it later on and see what's what.
