Took the plunge a month ago to get an MX5. It's a 2005 mk2.5 1.6l with 21,000 miles on the clock and FSH with a hardtop. 2,000 miles later everything is still grand, however what would you recommend the first tweaks I should do to it?

I've read a lot about wheel alignment which I am looking into. The alloys on in (factory fit) are starting to flake slightly and it'll need new tyres in a few thousand miles so I'm looking at getting some new alloys and tyres. Preferably anthracite in colour, has anyone got any pictures, recommendations for alloys and tyres?

I'm new to all of this, so go easy smile

....come on chaps, where's the love!

Congratulations on the new purchase, I have a Mk1 but really like the look of the late mk2.5 cars so I hope you enjoy...

In regards to mods, MX-5 ownership is such a broad church, it really is down to what you want from the car. My car was always intended for mostly road and 3 track days a year so it's standard apart from tracking, roll/ harness bar and a set of AD08's and I fit a bucket seat when I get to track. It suits me down to the ground. Maybe if you are more specific to what you want, people might Chime in (are you a drifter, Fancy some FI, Want to bling it up with chrome, or just want to get the top off for some country roads with the missus?)

Usual MX5 stuff. Wheel alignment and if you are replacing wheels make sure you get some decent matching rubber on all four wheels. Anything after that is all down to what you are expecting from it as said above.

One mod i would recommend also is sell the hardtop. I sold mine for a third of what i bought the whole of my old NB for (£500)

Oh and another one, you have probably noticed the sound of your MX is like that coming out of a boring hatchback. Stick a new backbox on it and you will love ragging it with the roof down.

Look at the show us your mx5 thread here and have a good trawl around in the members car section on mx5 nuts for inspiration. There are some very nice cars around to look at.
