Hi All,

I've got a 1992 Eunos import and was considering fitting a de-cat pipe, but know that the MOT rules have recently changed.

Am I correct that the MOT check for a cat on a car of this age is just a visual one? i.e. - MX5parts sell a silenced de-cat section, which looks like there's still a cat in place. Am I likely to have any problems with emissions tests without one?

Thanks,
Ryan.

I got through with a decat no problem.. it's if the car had one from new then it has to be fitted and I assume as it's imported they have no records?

The regs that brought emissions requirements down to the point where a cat was needed came in in 94 so your car does not need a cat and never has.

I have a 1992 Eunos and put the decat pipe on it. No problems so far.

Also, if you do fit it then have a mountain of hacksaw blades because you'll probably have to cut the old one off the bolts will be that corroded.

The car came with them as standard so will need one for the mot however the car is tested under a non cat test as it's before 94 import uk cars are 92. To be honest you would have to find a really strict tester to fail for that though.
