Evening Guys & Gals,

Opinions required. At 39 MPH my MK2 shakes. It only does this when cold. Its not a wheel balancing problem as have had all the wheels off & the steering wheel doesn't shake, just the whole car. Does it in every gear, haven't tried it in 1st..... Never does it when the engine is warm. She's a 1999 1.8iS

I'm confused!!!!

Have you actually had the wheels rebalanced?

Have you checked the wheels for buckles? Have you checked the tyres for bulges & buckles?

Also confused. Mainly by the only when cold reference. I am thinking that you may have something going on in the box or diff which is accentuated by high viscosity of oil when cold.

If it was constant hot or cold I'd be all over the suspension bushes, / bearings / propshaft, brakes, steering and similar but the only when cold statement is confusing for any of that.

Was there anything significant that changed in your use of the car before it started (eg track day, donuts, long period of no use etc).

Warped brake disc? This sort of symptom is pretty common for that malady in BMWs of a certain age.
