I have a mk1 (import if makes difference)the paint on the bonnet and the boot lid as gone like blotchy ( it looks like water marks ). Tried to get it good wash and polish and it doesn't touch it, rest of car comes up nice but these really let it down. Was wondering if anyone else has had this or knows how to sort it ?
When we get a dry day il try and get a picture as you cant see it when car is wet.

Is it red? The classic red reacts with sunlight over time. The only solution is to cut it back to layers of unaffected paint or respray. "Colour Magic" type coloured polish can make it look better if it's not too bad.

BRG should have a coat of lacquer so maybe it just needs a good cut & polish. Not use Colour Magic will help much.
A picture would help...

ETA: Metallic you say? Mk1 BRG was a flat colour, not metallic? If yours is metallic then it might well have had a respray.

There is nothing you can do to remove blotchy water marks on car boots or bonnets but the good new is they do disappear when summers ends ,ive owned 3 cars that had this issue every time summer came and it rained after washing the car there were rain water stains on the boot or bonnet and no matter what i used to try remove them nothing worked i use polish and G3 grade polish its stronger than T cut even tried vingar but nothing shifted them then one day i went out and to my amazment there was not onr mark on the boot or bonnet but it was november ,its the warm weather that courses this to happen when it rains and weather is warm it dries them water stains into the paint even if the weather is'nt really warm and it rains this can still happen but the stains usually stop staining your car late autumn but if you cant live with them only a new spray job will stop this
