Hi all,

I'll shortly be doing the 108,000 mile service on my daughter's Mk 2.5 1.8 Sport. This is the Big One - timing belt, water pump, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, etc. Before I order all the bits, does anyone know whether it's pretty much essential to change the cam cover gasket too, or do you find that it can be re-used? I'd rather keep the price down if possible, and these are surprisingly expensive items (£46.81 from Autolink).

Says £28.61 + vat on the website. Can probably get it a bit cheaper in a kit along with cam belt, idler & tensioner pulleys, and water pump, all of which you should change at the same time.

Well spotted. I was looking at their eBay store. It seems that the price difference is due to two additional O-rings!
