Lower timing cover. Same on all models?
Discussion
Hi all
I have a mk2 1.8iS, an early one on an R reg.
I've been giving it a bit of a winter overhaul and have even tackled my first Cambelt change. Anyway, one of the old bolts was so badly rusted up I had to snap the lower timing cover into 3 pieces to remove it. I bought a lightly used 3 piece affair on eBay and it looks identical and measures up with the old one just fine.
The thing is, having now refitted the timing covers, crank pulley (to 166Nm) and aux belts if I now turn the engine over by hand I can hear the crank pulley fouling on the bottom cover. It sounds like the back if the pulley as apose to the little lug with the '10 & T' on it.
Question is, is this a big deal? I'd rather not have to tear the whole lot apart unless I really have to! Is it possible I have one off a different model and they are not the same? It certainly fits all the bolt holes.
