Best oil for a 96 Mx5 Mk1

Fuchs TITAN SUPERSYN 5W-40 High Performance, Fully Synthetic, Engine Oil - 5 Litres £29.40 from Opie Oils with further 10% off for members of various forums and car clubs.
My 97 1.8 mk1 was run on 10W40 semi-synth with changes every 10k up to about 70k miles (all its pre-track life). On Phil from Performance 5's advice I fitted an oil temp gauge (in a sandwich plate under the filter) before tracking it. On a cold day at Oulton Park I saw 130C during one spirited session, although it cooled down quickly if one backed off a bit. Opie advised me this was on the warm side for a semi-synth so I fitted an oil cooler (with a 92C stat) and upgraded to fully synth 5W40 oil, despite various dire forum warnings not to due to the risk of the enhanced additive package dislodging crap from the engine and blocking oilways. No ill effects suffered and it quietened down the top end on start up. It can be thrashed all day now and I've not seen engine oil temp go above 115C, even on hot days.
