MK2 exhaust manifold on MK1

I read somewhere that the standard MK2 exhaust is better flowing than the Mk1. Looking at the two manifolds i can see what they mean, but can you just bolt one on?

Is it the same shape? or will some fabrication need to be done in order to make it fit?

From memory they are interchangeable at the head but not at the Cat/downpipe so you would need to change the manifold and exhaust.
