My lad has a mk1 import eunos which has been a great car but has thrown up a strange idling problem. at idle, occasionaly the rpm drops and sometimes stalls, however if he puts on the pop up headlights, the rpm stays constant and the car sits at idle smoothly, I`m stumped by this. We thought about the de-cat, the airflow meters etc etc, but we are open to suggestions as to why this happens, thanks for any help.

The usual fix ( it's a common fault) for the idle is cleaning the throttle body, a service (plugs gapped carefully), an Italian tune up, and setting the idle a bit higher. Not sure why pop up lights have an impact, but is it with Lights ON or using the 'cleaning' button on the dash ? With lights on there would be more current draw and maybe the ECU spots that and decides it needs more fuel at idle. Just a guess.

Hello Mark, thanks for your advice, it is indeed with the lights on, I`ll get him to give the throttle body a clean up, but what is the cleaning button ?

Centre console. Topish row, central? Manual lights pop up button.
