MX5 Radio on/off switch
Discussion
Just got my first MX5 --- a Mk.3 Roadster Coupe 2007 with 2L motor. When I collected it the radio was on. When the Power/Vol knob is pressed it does not turn off. I`ve studied the handbook but not solved it. Am I missing something? Any solutions?? It shuts down when the ignition key is turned to the off position, of course. So does it matter??
The other thing that troubles me is that there is no way of knowing if the previous owner has put in a code number to the radio. So if the battery is disconnected in future I won`t be able to start the stereo.

If the radio is working then you can clear the code or set your own. You only need to know the code if/when the battery has been disconnected. Chances are, there's no code set (the manual doesn't make this at all clear). No-one wants to steal the radio from an MX-5, as they only car it fits into is another MX-5.The other thing that troubles me is that there is no way of knowing if the previous owner has put in a code number to the radio. Pressing the volume knob turns my radio on or off. IIRC the radio reverts to last state (on or off) when you turn the key. I think that it'll lose that state when you disconnect the power.
It's been a while since I've down this, but I recall that you turn the radio off to set the code. So you're pretty well stuffed either way.
It might just be a broken microswitch in the power/volume button though.
Thanks Sbird for the reply. Will try, through the Nissan garage where I bought the car, to find out if the previous owner (it only had one) put in a code ( and if he did what it is!!)
I think you are probably right about the microswitch on the on/off knob. I wonder if that`s repairable.

Kindly Nissan dealership contacted previous owner and he had not entered a code. So no worries there.
Chap also said "off switch " works intermittently --- puts it down to a "loose connection". ( Probably
a microswitch as you say. Think I may live with this -- silencing the audio with the volume knob rather than having someone pulling the unit about!
Thanks again.
