Hi all,

I have a quick question that hopefully somebody on here knows the answer to...

I own a mx5 2.5 Euphonic and I have just renewed my insurance with Flux Direct. After sending off loads of details, pictures, V5 etc. to prove I own the car, they have come back to me and stated that the car is 'modified' as it has a Strut brace across the engine bay. I thought this came as standard as part of the Euphonic model (and most mx5's) which I'm now arguing with them. They now want to charge me another £35 to put the strut brace on.

Does anyone know if the braces come as standard on the euphonic?

Thanks in advance

I'm 90% certain they are standard.Does the strut brace look like the one below, if so it's a Mazda part.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Flux.

If they aren't laughably expensive they bend you over with ridiculous justifications to charge you "extras".

I haven't used them for about 5 years now, I got sick of being taken for a mug, but gave them another chance a year ago to quote and sure enough were around 20% more expensive than anyone else.

It does look like the one in the picture except mine is silver.

They've told me that if I say that it is standard out of the factory they'll drop the £35 charge, although it will be 'my risk' if it isn't standard, and should a claim arise I'll be prosecuted etc etc. hence why I'm asking.

It does seem like they're out to catch people out and try squeeze abit more money out of people. Unfortunately in my case they were the cheapest by about £400!

i had this with Flux,

sent photos and the £200 quoted went up by £65 because i had an "anti roll bar" fitted!! I told them this was standard and how did they come to this conclusion as i hadnt sent pictures of the underside?
"we can see it in the photos"
"no you cant"
"yes we can"
"do you know what an anti roll bar is?"
"NO"
"then why you trying to charge me for it?"
"its in the photos"

i finally educated her that we were talking about a roll over barrolleyes

options;
accept the £65 surcharge or pay over £400 more with the nearest competitor

Just remove the strut brace.

There are drivers that say that it does something useful, and those that say it doesn't. The one from my Mk2 is hanging on the wall in the garage, when it's busy making the wall stiffer...
