Stat - 82 or 88 degrees?

Hi all

Just buying up a bunch of bits from auto link for my mk2 1.8iS. They have a choice of 2 stats for my model. As per thread title. Do I need a specific opening temp for my car? What's the theory behind having one that opens up at a hotter temp??

88C is the standard rating and is the one you want. Some FI cars prefer 82C as they generally run hotter.
